They were saying they were from O2 and that I was eligible for a 40% discount because I paid my bill on time. Immediately suspect, I said "great, apply it to my bill! you shouldn't need any details from me for that" and they said they needed my email and they would do the rest. I insisted that if they were legitimately with O2, they would already have my email as O2 emails me frequently. He kept trying to ask for my email saying he wouldn't ask for any other 'personal details' and I said an email is a personal detail, and if he was legit he would have it already or could send me an email to what was on my account. He gave up after that so I believe it was a scam. Don't give out your details when asked by just anyone! I probably would have had my email added to a dataset for scammers if I did.
