Have received a text from this number. Fairly obvious it's a scam. But now checking Credit Karma a debt to Britis Gas has appeared on my account. Can a scammer do this? Clearly it could seriously affect my credit score.

This is a real British Gas number I spoke to an agent on live chat via the app and online on British Gas website who both confirmed it is truly a BG number as I was worried after seeing these comments

Be careful they got me and I stupidly followed the link and paid. They obviously think "great we got a mug on the line" as I'm now getting even more demands for unpaid gas, really annoyed with myself as normally so careful :-(
