An Indian guy rang a friend of mine and ask him to turn computer on as there was something wrong with internet ( he’s no idea about these things) then the guy told him what to do on keypad after fifteen minutes the guy said everything was sorted and hung up , what my friend didn’t realise was that his bank account was hacked and they’d taken £3000 , his bank sorted things out for him in the end so never listen to these people

So what was British Telecom's response? It seems to me that BT should face criminal charges for aiding abetting and FACILITATING criminal fraud via telecommunications, and direct criminal harassment. Got a call about 9:50 ish in the morning. An indian sounding lady apparently from London area, crowded background noise. Asked for me by my name, I asked who it was, said she wanted to talk to me about life insurance and I immediately hung up and shortly blocked. I rarely pick up numbers I don't recognise idk why I did this time.

Bt do own alot of fibre optics for Internet and telephone however other companies use the service and I would imagine that it would be the company that you are with that would issue with there customers that there was a problem. This would be done via there website

Had a lovely chat with Peter about all my problems with BT as a company, opened up my computer doing as he requested and gave him my passwords and bank details. He seemed very happy! Hi there, what they do if people fall for it, is they convince You to sit in front of your computer and type in an IP address which will give them remote access, they didn’t place a keylogger on your computer which records every single/you make on the keyboard and records every single site that you look at and can also collect your personal data because they will have access to all of your files

The caller was trying to get you to install 'a remote access program' (under the guise of something else). Had you gone along with it, he would then have full access to your PC and everything it contained. Calling back a number or pressing a number on your phone following a recorded message is also bad news. Simply hang up.

They get you to open your laptop and take you to a place where genuinely and unimportant corrupt files live - they might have a mark against them. They say they can talk you through removing them - for a fee so you either pay £200 to remove files that don't need removing or they will get you to give them remote access - they then can take over your laptop any time they like. DO NOT EVER DO THIS - or on your phone.

These scumbags occupy entire floors of run down buildings in New Delhi, Pune and Madras. They sit in booths and a computer with a mug list makes the calls and allocates one of these cockroaches as an operator. They all have basically the same story. There's really no point in k*****g off at them it's all in a day's work. The only time I got a rise out of one was after telling him what a great time I had with his sister the night before.

Received a call from this number this afternoon, 020 3519 1664, and before on 12th March. Caller was a man who sounded Asian, trying to talk to me about insurance. What was concerning he addressed me by my last name. When I asked him to remove my number from his database, he hung up on me. Both numbers have been blocked. Had a text from this number asking for redelivery fees of royal mail parcel. It has a link to 'royal mail' sire - very convincing to those unaware of these thieving *****rds text from 07498868863 - another yesterday from other mobile number - I blocked that too. David, if it were that easy this muti million pound business of theft and corruption simply would not exist. I must admit, I found it amusing when they called me - I played along for a moment or two asking what the problem may be and whom was calling - Peter said he was from BT, I thanked him for is urgent call and asked if he minded me calling this number from my other phone to verify his identity - he said not a problem - he quickly put the phone down when I just said "thank you - my number may show up strange as I'll be calling from the police station cybersecurity squad" :-) had to giggle..

Several similar calls claiming to be BT Technical Department. Usually Asian accent . I usually respond joke-ingly like Charlie Drake, "Oh, stop mucking about, we both know you're not from BT". They then ring off. On one occasion I said I hadn't got a computer and he went berserk calling me a liar! Keep them going for as long as you feel like it - they're paying for the call. I just feel sorry for those who still fall for this.

No, they dont have any information that they can use. if they had they would not need to call you. They are just fishing. They randomly generate and call numbers. Anyone can make up a number, just use one of the 5 digit prefixes, then randomly add 7 numbers and you have someone's mobile number. That is why they want to talk and get your name and other details

BT very rarely make outbound calls - and they woulnt never know if u were being hacked. BT rely on customers to make them aware that there is a problem. They would only ever CUT you off - if u havent paid a bill - this can be checked on the MYBT app - website. im pretty sure this is defo a scam- if u have bt call protect, u can block them. Also BT are unable to *screen share*so if these callers want to take over ur screen - refuse xx

There is also a cultured lady voice which also tries to convince you that you are going to have trouble with internet, that you are about to be raided by the police, if you dont press a number, that customs and excise will be raiding your home if you dont press 1 and speak to a bogus inspector, I try to keep them on as long as possible by pretending hearing loss and get them to speak up or repeat what they have said, eventually they get fed up and put the phone down

These call centres are in India using a VPN service which gives random UK landline and cell phone numbers. You will always hear a bleep when you answer and before they talk. So you will never be able to call back. Best just hang up

Oh my goddess the same people called me and my partner the other day saying they’re from citizens advice and my boyfriend told me straight away that it’s a scam and to hang up as he was an Indian or Pakistani man with an English name peter or Carl he’s said anyway there scammers and are dangerous.

Fed up of these calls my Father Died recently and since I went to the registrar to report his passing I have been called all the time from different numbers and different companies on my mobile and I have never given my number to anyone other than Friends or relatives before or since so these companies must have a way of getting into there computers which is very worrying indeed

The idea behind these calls is to either get you to disclose additional information that can be used to Hack into one of your accounts, to get you to download manually some program to your PC (Manually to bypass any Firewalls or Virus protection you have) or to simply extort money from you.

I’ve got 2 calls saying he was from Liverpool Victoria regarding my life insurance and that he could give me a better deal . As I was at work I asked him to phone me back tonight but now reading all comments I’m not trusting him and blocked this number. Very politely asked where the caller had obtained my number as it was a restricted UK government number, and the simple act of accessing the number was a threat to national security and an offence against the crown. I’m not sure it’s helpful to hear that the scam caller has an ‘Asian’ or ‘Indian’ accent. As if this, in itself, should make us concerned. If you call customer services for Vodafone, O2, etc you may very well get someone with an accent unlike yours. Your mayor or MP might have an accent that could be described as ‘Asian’. They want you to go online to a site they have set up. They will then direct you to click a few "buttons" on their site and then your computer will be under their control. Bank Accounts, Passwords, Personal photos (always good for Blackmail!), etc

Just received a call from this number claiming that my BT line would be disconnected. I replied ok and the caller asked if that was a problem. I just said no that's fine, he couldn't understand why I was not bothered but just hung up. What I suspect he wanted was either access to a computer or perhaps payment to stop the disconnection. This is just a job to these people and they have no morals whatsoever. If BT or whoever were forced to investigate every call it would stop overnight.

When i tried to report this scam to BT they directed me to the fraud action line but they were not able to do anything as no money exchanged hands. you'd have thought that BT should be better at dealing with this as its their name these scammers are using, instead they pass you on to fraud action line. and they can't do anything unless you have been conned out of money. this allows the scammers to continue trying to con others. SHAME ON YOU BT for not investigating.

I'm assuming they have managed to get numbers from BT as a large number of people on here stated the caller was from BT. I base this on the fact they now seem to be changing tact. I was asked by this number if I would take part in a survey on behalf of EdFe and other companies and would only take 3mins. Needless to say I told her I was on my way out and couldn't. Same story: Asian accent, claiming to represent BT Technical Services. Internet will be cut off in 30 minutes. My wife answered and passed him to me. I told him he was lying and he rang off. He was ringing on a Virgin phone line. The number ostensibly used is not recognised. More importantly, Ofcom's website does not appear to have a facility for reporting this. Be careful saying yes and ok - because sometimes the scam is they tape your voice and then make it look like you have agreed to buying something from them - we have just had this training at work - so am know very reluctant to say 'yes' or similar when it is a scam.

Whatever you do, don't alow them to persuade you to log on to your pc or 'talk you through' anything as they will probably try to hack it and get passwords etc. Read recently about someone's bank details being accessed this way.

I received a call from this number on my mobile device, it is not the first one from the Ammanford area. Previously they have tried to con information out of me regarding my life insurance policy, however they did not know who I was with or what my policy number was so I hung up. I asked him whether he was from an assisted suicide company, and had my children asked him to ring, this seemed to baffle him and he mumbled someting else, decided I was mad, possibly correctly! and put the phone down. I am beginning to enjoy these scm calls and try to waste as much of their time as possible.
